We need volunteers to help us accomplish the following work tasks:
1. Paint the exterior, including the trim work.
2. Build wood handrails for the steps on her deck in the back of the house.
3. Pull up and replace the wood floor decking boards on the back deck.
4. Repair/replace some wood trim work as necessary.
5. NEW ROOF. There are about 3 layers of existing shingles that we will pull up and install new roofing.

Providing fun and learning is just one of the purposes behind the annual Princeton Towers Bible study, made possible by our own Hunter Street Senior Adults.  For the past 14 years they have been conducting a morning VBS style Bible study for residents of Princeton Towers Apartments.  This year 32 residents participated in the February 6-8 event.  One woman has not missed this study for the past ten years.

In addition to sharing the Gospel, this event gives Hunter Street Senior Adults a chance to participate in a mission project here in town.  Fourteen Hunter Streeters helped this year, most of them from Senior Adult classes. Jack Lavalett’s Sunday School class helped this year by delivering invitations to some 200 apartments.

JOY was the study theme and Janet Hamm led the Bible study and Barry Daniel, Minister to Senior Adults, led the worship.  Several Senior Adult Sunday School classes furnished the refreshments.

The restoration was the result of the Restoring Hope Ministry partnership of Metro Birmingham. This is a Christ-centered long-term disaster recovery group whose mission is to rebuild and restore families, homes and churches.

“I just want to thank those who helped for everything they did and for their hard work,” said Bill Sanford, who coordinated the effort. “It was a great day. The house and the yard look really nice.”  Some of the volunteers even brought their children to help with the cleanup job.

“The whole day was super and the rain held off until late that afternoon,” noted Bill.  “And if you think about it, the good Lord provided exactly the number of people that we needed. It was perfect. God is so good…all the time.”

A little more work remains to be done on the Roebuck house before it is complete. This includes new carpet, lights and light plates, refrigerator, new stove, repaired plumbing and heating and cooling.  These items are expected to be complete this week.

Volunteers of America, Metro Changers and Hunter Street have partnered up to FLIP a house in Roebuck beginning Saturday, February 4.  The home is for a Fultondale family who lost their home in the April tornado.

The house is a small 3-bedroom with a den and living room. Our goal is to get the home ready for this family to move-in, in just a couple of weeks. Yes that is correct, a couple of weeks!

Here is what we will do Saturday, February 4:

1. Pull up the old carpet.

2. Clean the interior of the house, including the floors, closets, bathrooms, countertops, cabinets, drawers, etc.

3. Paint the interior walls and ceilings.

4. Clean out the gutters.

5. Clean out and mow the yard.

6. Repair and re-hang a gate.

7. Repair an awning in back of the house.

8. Put back above the fireplace, the Mantel.

Tools and supplies: whatever it takes to accomplish the above projects. Please bring your tools, with your name marked on each.

Working together, we hope to get this house ready for this family to move in very soon, by mid-February.

New carpet is scheduled to be installed on February 6 or 7.  We need lots of help!  Can you help or do you know others who can?

Saturday, January 28- Prep 1:oo p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Hunter Street Baptist Church kitchen for dinner at Northpark Baptist Church. Serve dinner at Northpark Baptist at 5:00 p.m.

Donations Needed.  The Christian Service Mission, 3600 3rd Avenue South Birmingham, AL 35222 is the central collection point for donations.  Duct tape, Gatorade, contractor trash bags, diapers (all sizes), diaper wipes and Rubbermaid tubs are needed. Hunter Street is not a collection point, so please bring donations to the CSM to get these items to those who need them.

Friday and Saturday.  On January 27 and 28 volunteers are needed to help remove debris.  Meet at Centerpoint First Baptist Church, 1945 Centerpoint Parkway, at 7:45 a.m. either day.  You will be registered, given a map and then sent to work.  Grab a friend, Sunday School classmates, or go on your own!

1.  Restoring Hope

Restoring Hope is the name of a group of churches, including Hunter Street, from the greater Birmingham community, who help mobilize and guide the church to respond to disaster with the compassion of Christ.

 2. Christian Service Mission. 

The Birmingham Baptist Association Disaster Feeding and Chainsaw crews are in standby mode.  When they receive the go-ahead from the EMA and the Red Cross, they will be activated.

 3.  Samaritan’s Purse.

Samaritan’s Purse is at Northpark Church in Center Point and will begin taking local volunteers at 8:00 a.m.  and 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25.

4.  Grace’s Kitchen. 

Feeding hungry souls is the heartbeat of this ministry.  Check their page often for their Tornado Relief volunteer needs.
